As we continue with our Historical researches we are regularly adding details to our website, so here is our latest update on the famous Victorian artist who lived within a quarter of a mile of Manning’s Pit.
This webpage will have more details added to it, so this is just a taster.
We are especially curious – see the Press Cutting included – about the fact that Lee’s paintings were already on display in the Melbourne Public Library before he arrived there in his yacht Linda in 1873. As we have had messages of support for our campaign already from Melbourne, we hope to encourage our Australian friends to do some detective work on our behalf. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find that there was a Manning’s Pit painting there in Melbourne!
Here was Sophie sending us a Save Manning’s Pit message from Flinders Street Station in Melbourne earlier this year.
